Jeanne E. Fox, age 76 of Indiana, passed away at her daughter’s home surrounded by family on Friday, May 26, 2017.
The daughter of Layard W. and Ora R. (Armstrong) Gaston, she was born in 1941 in Rochester Mills.
Jeanne and her husband, Gerald, owned and operated the Fox Polled Hereford Farm, offering quality beef to loyal customers. She was a devoted and active member of Grace United Methodist Church, and volunteered with the youth group and the food bank, as well as the Christian Counseling Center.
With love and compassion, Jeanne was her mother’s primary caregiver, seeing her mother through the difficult challenges that Alzheimer’s disease presents. She never hesitated to help others, and was a foster parent to many children in Indiana County. She was a Christian role model as wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She introduced her great grandchildren to gardening, and her grandchildren enjoyed baking, cooking and canning with her, passing on family traditions. In 2012, she began battling ovarian cancer that eventually metastasized to her brain. She never complained, and entered each new situation with bravery. Her faith and trust in God was unwavering. She exuded the kind of faith, courage, and dependency on God that Philippians 4:13 references. Her strength truly came from the Lord throughout her battle with cancer over the last five years.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald T. Fox Sr.; two daughters – Jeannette Lemmon of Indiana and Bridget Grogan (John)of North Fayette Township; three sons – Gerald T. Jr. (Kelly) of Indiana; Pastor Noah (Karen) of Union, N.J.; and Michael (Amanda), of Indiana; 13 grandchildren – Jessica Walker (Joshua); Andrew, Rachel, Hayden and Collin Fox; Allyson, Cassandra, Aaron and Abigail Fox; Jordan, Haley and Meghan Grogan; and Iva Fox; three great-grandchildren: Trenton, Alayna and Dylan Walker; eight brothers – Edward (Carol), Allen (Nancy), Laird “Huck” (Betsy), Charles (Doris), John (Helen), George (Sandy), Nick (Rita) and Vince (Lora) Gaston, brother-in-law Wallace Calhoun; sister-in-law Joan (Clifford) Griffith; Gerald’s sisters, Phyllis (Bob) Kasian and Gloria Fox; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Barbara Ilene Calhoun; her brother, Ronald Dan Gaston; and Gerald’s brother George Fox.
The family thanks Cindy, Candy and AseraCare for outstanding hospice care.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, May 28 from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 PM at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, and from 10 to 11 AM Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, where a funeral service will begin at 11 AM with Pastor Kathy Mihoerck officiating.
