A deadly illness has been detected in deer populations throughout Western Pennsylvania.
According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, cases of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) have recently been confirmed in deer across five townships in Butler, Erie, Lawrence, and Mercer counties. The disease is transmitted exclusively through the bite of an infected fly and cannot spread directly from deer to deer.
Officials emphasize that there is no evidence the virus poses any risk to humans, pets, or other wildlife.
