Ronald John Stewart, 72 of Marion Center, was called to the Lord on Thursday, May 11, 2017 while at the Pittsburgh VA Hospital.
The son of Ronald Penman Stewart and Agnes Adamson (Paris) Stewart, he was born September 13, 1944 in Marion Center, PA.
Mr. Stewart had completed his undergraduate work at Indiana University of PA after which he received two master degrees. While attending IUP’s ROTC, he was commissioned as an officer and served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He had taught sociology at York College for several years prior to taking over his father’s business.
Mr. Stewart had owned and operated Stewart’s Garage and auto sales in Marion Center for numerous years. He was active in community affairs at Marion Center and was on the board of Mahoning Medical Center. Ron was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1989, a member of Indiana Franklin Masonic Lodge #313, also a member of the Coudersport Consistory, and the Marion Center Lions Club. Ron attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Indiana, PA. Ron was interested in all things military and he also liked to go hunting and to train his German Shepherds, sometimes as therapy dogs.
Ronald will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Bonita “Bonnie” (Dilts) Stewart, Marion Center; children: Ronna Stewart (Anthony) Mineo, Plum, Ronald John Stewart, II, Marion Center, and Stacy Lynn Stewart, Marion Center; granddaughter, Cassidy Nicole Mineo, Plum; brother, David Penman (Judy) Stewart, Indiana; nephews, David William (Donna) Stewart, Leesburg, VA and Robert Penman (Kayla) Stewart, Indiana.
Preceding Ronald in death were his parents and a grandson, Joseph Stewart Mineo.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Indiana on Wednesday, May 17 at 10:30. Interment with military honors will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Indiana.
Interment in the Greenwood Cemetery will be private.
