Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro condemned political violence after the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, saying it “cannot be tolerated in our society.”
In a statement shared on social media yesterday, Shapiro described the incident as “horrifying” and urged Americans to “speak with moral clarity.”
Kirk, 31, was shot and killed during an outdoor rally at a Utah college. The tragedy comes less than five months after Shapiro’s home was set ablaze in what authorities believe was a politically motivated attack.
Here is the full statement from Shapiro posted to X:
“Political violence has no place in our country. We must speak with moral clarity. The attack on Charlie Kirk is horrifying and this growing type of unconscionable violence cannot be allowed in our society.”
Shapiro has directed that both the United States and Commonwealth flags at all Commonwealth facilities, public buildings, and grounds throughout Pennsylvania be flown at half-staff in honor of Charlie Kirk.
The flags will remain lowered until sunset on Sunday, September 14, 2025.
