The attention of America turned to the first responders in New York City, Washington DC and Pennsylvania after the terrorist attacks on September 11th of 2001, and some are reflecting on the changes that have been made 24 years later.
Indiana Fire Association Assistant Chief Ron Moreau was in the department at the time of the terrorist attacks. Like many volunteer firefighters, he was at work at the time of the attack but later joined others at the station.
As to how things have changed because of the attacks, Moreau said that one of the key things that changed had to do with the use of common language in communications with first responders.
Moreau also said that there was an uptick in interest in volunteering with fire departments and enrolling in the military in the wake of the attacks.
