A 16-year-old Shaler Area High School student was taken into custody yesterday following an extensive police search prompted by the discovery of a handgun in his bedroom.
Authorities reported that the juvenile fled into nearby woods after an argument with his mother, who had found the firearm. The search effort involved the use of police dogs and aerial drones.
As a precaution, Shaler Area High School was placed on a secure status, restricting both entry and exit during the incident.
The student’s identity is being withheld due to his age.
