Another hospital has signed on as a clinical training affiliate for IUP’s proposed college of osteopathic medicine.
On Monday, IUP and the Conemaugh Miners Medical Center formalized the affiliation agreement for future students at the proposed medicine school at a ceremony at the hospital. This marks the 17th formal agreement for the proposed college. Others that signed on include IRMC, Punxsutawney Area Hospital, Torrance State Hospital and others.
IUP president Dr. Michael Driscoll said that the process to establish clinical training agreements may be the tough part of the process, but instead, health care service providers throughout the region and state have been coming to IUP and asking to be a part of the efforts. Conemaugh Miners Medical Center Chief Operating Officer Jessica Svidergol-Peterman said the partnership will benefit their rural area as it will create future opportunities for physicians to work in the community.
IUP was recently upgraded to “candidate status” from the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. That means the school has done the required planning and has the necessary resources to apply for pre-accreditation within the next two years.
