Indiana Regional Medical Center announced that they have performed its first robot-assisted bariatric surgery at their facility.
The gastric sleeve surgery was performed on March 29th by bariatric surgeon Dr. Brian Walkowski and utilized the da Vinci robot. IRMC’s head of minimally invasive and robotic surgery Dr. Dan Clark said that while this was the first bariatric surgery at IRMC, it was not the first for Walkowski.
The bariatric program at IRMC also offers gastric bypass surgery. Patients go through a rigorous process that takes about half a year to prepare them for the surgery. It marks the first surgery of its kind for IRMC since the bariatric program was first offered in the fall of last year.
