Victor Pividori of Homer City, Pennsylvania (Blacklick Twp.), age 93, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Indiana Regional Medical Center.Son of Angelo and Maria Ana (Dri) Pividori, he was born October 14, 1923 in Aultman, Pennsylvania.
As one of “the Greatest Generation”, Victor joined the United States Army and rose to the rank of sergeant, United State Army. He fought in major battles of World War II including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He was particularly proud of his service and that he and his five brothers all went to war and all came home safely.
He worked in the coal industry all his life and served as a federal mining inspector for the south western district of Pennsylvania.
Victor was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He loved the outdoors. He learned to hunt at age 12 and did so until after his 92nd birthday. Some of his happiest memories were when he was surrounded by his brothers and friends during hunting or fishing season, sharing food, coffee royals, and stories of the ones that got away.
He was a faithful communicant of the Good Shepherd Church, Kent, where he served as an usher for many years.
He was married on New Year’s Eve, 1953, to Loretta Clement, until her death in August of 2000. He is survived by his loving children, Victoria Gibson and husband, Richard of Blairsville, PA; Susan Chudwick and husband, Mark of Ansonia, Connecticut; Bryan and fiancé, Sandra Evans of Homer City, PA and Lisa Gillen and husband, Michael of Sewell, New Jersey. He was proudest of his grandchildren: Jennifer Kelley & husband, Paul of Memphis, TN, Autumn Pividori of Pittsburgh, PA, Elliot and Abigail Chudwick, and Michael and Madison Gillen. Most special of all were his great-granddaughters, Evelyn and Merida Kelley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter-in-law, Susan Pividori and also several brothers & sisters.
Victor was one of a kind. His outgoing and friendly personality will be deeply missed by his family, neighbors, friends, and all who knew him.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the James F. Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc., 25 West Market Street, Blairsville. Additional visitation will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Kent, PA on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 9:30 10:00 AM, where a funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM. Fr. William Lechnar will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Indiana. VFW Post #5821 & the American Legion Post #0407 will conduct graveside military services.
