WINEMAN, VIOLET “VI” RUTH (SIMMONS), 82 OF LATROBE, PA
passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017 on her 82nd birthday at Bethlen Home, Ligonier, PA. The daughter of the late Hurst Simmons and Tressie (Young) Simmons, she was born March 12, 1935 in Linden, WV, but lived most of her adult life in Latrobe, PA. Violet had a booth at Jonnett Flea Market for about 20 years doing silk arrangements. Vi was a very strong willed person who devoted her life to her husband, George S. Wineman, whom she married on December 10, 1956, her 3 children and her 6 grandchildren. She loved all animals, especially cats. She enjoyed raising her own garden, then canning and freezing the vegetables for use in the winter. She was an excellent cook and baker, baking up to eight pies at a time, and was known for her delicious fudge and nutrolls. She was also an excellent seamstress, sewing clothes for her children and western shirts for her husband. Helping her neighbors on College Drive in Lawson Heights was something that Vi just did; be it driving them somewhere, painting the walls in their homes or just being there when they were sick. Vi was loved by and is missed by many, including those who survive her: daughter, Teresa J. Wolford & husband, Harry of Blairsville, PA; daughter, Georgia J. Carson & husband, Kevin of Catonsville, MD; brother, C. Edward Wineman & wife, Caroline Linatoc of Woodstock, GA; grandchildren: Sarah, Kevin & Patrick Carson of MD and Craig, Tony & Paul Wineman of GA; sister, June Carper, Nitro, WV and sister, Lenore Kress of Parkersburg, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on October 5, 1983. In keeping with Violets wishes, there will be no visitation. Services will be private and will be held at the family’s convenience. The family wishes to thank all of Violet’s caregivers at Bethlen Home and Bethlen Hospice in Ligonier, PA and suggests memorial donations be made to them in Violets’s name. Bethlen Hospice, 66 Carey School Road, Ligonier, PA 15658. Interment will be held in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
