A biography film on the life of Indiana native Jimmy Stewart is in the works, and the actor playing Jimmy on screen has been announced.
KJ Apa will portray Stewart in the film “Jimmy”. The New Zealand native is best known for playing Archie Andrews in the CW drama Riverdale and singer-songwriter Jeremy Camp in the film “I Still Believe”. In an interview with Variety, Apa said that he admired the golden era of Hollywood and the “generation of American men who stood for patriotism, integrity and a deep sense of duty.” Kelly Stewart-Harcourt, one of Jimmy’s daughters and a producer of the film, said that she was happy Apa will take on the role as he will bring enthusiasm to the project and a depth to the role.
In addition to Apa, the film will also feature “Seinfeld” actor Jason Alexander as Louis B. Mayer, Max Casella as Frank Capra, Jen Lilley as Jimmy’s wife Gloria, Sarah Drew as Hedda Hopper, and Julian Works as Second Lieutenant Martinez. Filming will start September 1st in Cork, Ireland. The film will be produced by Burns and Company, and is scheduled to be released in the U.S. in November of next year.
