The final night of IUPatty’s weekend had no major incidents, but there was a delay reported for an event on Sunday.
IUP police did see an increase in foot and vehicle traffic in and around campus. Twenty-eight calls were reported, including eight traffic stops, one accident, two ambulance calls and one drug investigation that turned out to be unfounded. Indiana Borough Police replied to 74 calls for service, resulting in 19 charges filed. Eleven were for traffic offenses, six citations were issued and there was one borough code violation.
Police also reported two burglaries over a 24-hour period. Officers were able to apprehend a suspect identified as 26-year-old Isaiah Andujar of Indiana, a non-IUP student. Police say he forced his way in to a home in the “00” block of South 5th Street and damaged several items in the home. Along with burglary, he is charged with criminal trespass and criminal mischief, and he is now in Indiana County Jail. The other burglary is still under investigation. Police are also investigating a possible sexual assault.
Meanwhile, State Police reported 90 traffic stops, three DUI arrests, three drug possession arrests, one public drunkenness arrest, and they also broke up one loud disturbance or party.
The one cancellation was for the annual cleanup efforts that normally involves up to 500 students from the Greek and student leadership programs. The students will join Indiana Borough cleanup efforts planned for Saturday, April 2nd.
