Indiana Regional Medical Center has received three recognitions from the American Heart Association for it’s stroke care program.
The association awarded IRMC with their “Get With the Guidelines-Stroke Silver Plus” award for ensuring that patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally-recognized, research-based guidelines. That makes sure that patients who suffer stroke have minimal long-term effects and even prevent death.
The American Heart Association has also bestowed on IRMC its Target: Stroke Honor Roll Award. To qualify for this recognition, IRMC had to meet specific criteria to reduce the time between patient arrival and treatment with thrombolytic therapy to dissolve blood clots.
The third recognition is for the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll program, which makes sure stroke patients with Type 2 Diabetes get the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke. Those with Type 2 are typically at higher risk for complications.
In a statement, IRMC Stroke Program Coordinator Registered Nurse Sara George said that the programs “makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis,” which leads to a goal of making sure “more people in our region can experience longer, healthier lives.”
