The status of the 2025-26 PA budget is up in the air once again after the State Senate Appropriations committee struck every item in the framework passed last week.
Last Monday, the framework passed the state house with three Republicans joining the Democrat majority to get things moving toward a final passage. The bill was blasted by Republican house members, saying it was not the plan they agreed to. Representative Jim Struzzi, who is the Republican leader on the House Appropriations Committee, said the bill lacked the necessary details to be considered a final product.
When the bill got to the Senate, the appropriations committee gutted the bill, and after second consideration, the full Senate sent the bill back to committee with no replacement plan and no future sessions on the calendar.
It’s now been three weeks since the budget deadline, and some effects from not having a budget are being seen. Last week at a special meeting, the River Valley School Board approved a Tax Anticipation loan to cover funding for the district until the state spending plan is passed and money is sent to the district.
