A former Penguins forward is now the head coach and GM of the Vernon Vipers in British Columbia.
The announcement of Matt Cooke’s new position with the Junior “A” League team was announced yesterday. Cooke, 46, has coached at various levels since retiring as a player in 2015 and in 2023, started his professional coaching career with the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers. His lone season with that club came to an abrupt ending, however, when the team ceased operations and its membership in the ECHL was terminated in April of 2024.
