With Major League Baseball entering its All-Star break, the minors get a rest as well, and there were two remarkable efforts by Pirates’ minor league affiliates on Sunday.
In their final game before the break, Altoona scored five runs in the seventh inning to knock off Binghampton 7-5. The big blow was a grand slam home run by designated hitter Wyatt Hendrie. Duce Gourson had three hits and Termarr Johnson and Mitch Jebb each had two hits.
Another amazing performance by the Greensboro Grasshoppers’ pitching staff yesterday…their second combined perfect game in ten days, in a 4-0 win over Bowling Green. Starter Hung-Leng Chang threw five perfect innings, with Joshua Loeschorn tossing two and Jake Shirk and Jarod Bayless finishing up, each perfect in an inning apiece. If you’re wondering. Shirk was the only pitcher to throw in both perfect games.
