Local fire departments are getting ready to help pay tribute to the late Blairsville fire department chief.
A funeral procession of fire trucks is planned for Saturday morning for Chief George “Turk” Burkley, who died on Monday at the age of 62. The procession will go from the Shoemaker Funeral Home starting at 10 AM on Saturday and will make its way to the First Christian Church for the funeral service at 11:00. Kevin Rhea with the Blairsville Fire Department said that they have received many requests from the neighboring fire departments to take part in the procession.
The escort for the trip back to Blairsville will consist of only members of the Blairsville and Black Lick fire departments.
The Blairsville fire station will also be open during all visitation hours at the funeral home for anyone who wants to visit with members. The station will also be open following the escort back to Blairsville.
