Charles Michael Zlockie, Jr., “Kazu”, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
A son of Charles Michael and Alberta Karpinski Zlockie, Sr., he was born Dec. 12, 1955, in Sunbury, Northumberland County.
Mr. Zlockie graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes Regional High School in 1973 and went on to graduate from Mount St. Mary’s University in 1977. He developed his strong work ethic as a young boy working alongside his father in the family business, Checker Battery. He moved to Indiana in 1984 where he became employed with Indiana County Children and Youth Services until 1996. Since that time he has been employed with All Abilities, Inc. (formerly United Cerebral Palsy) in the most recent position of service coordinator. He also ran his own successful business as a football handicapper for 25 years. He married the love of his life, Eileen (Pfeil) Zlockie on March 19, 1988, with whom he celebrated 28 years of marriage this past March. He was a member of St. Thomas More University Parish. Charles enjoyed trout fishing his entire life and had a love for sports. Having been born and raised in eastern Pennsylvania, he was a faithful fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Flyers, but his true passion was for football. He loved the Philadelphia Eagles and was more often than not wearing their logo. Perhaps his biggest thrill however came from watching the University of Michigan Wolverines football team play. As he said, ‘watching the Wolverines gives me chills.” He was always excited and eager for his annual trek to the Big House to watch the Wolverines play with his children and relatives. Kazu was a gentle, loving and caring husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. This was evident to all the individuals he served throughout his career.
He is survived by his mother, Alberta Zlockie, of Kulpmont; his wife, Eileen Pfeil Zlockie, of Indiana; a daughter, Abigail Zlockie, of State College; a son, Nathaniel Zlockie, of Indiana; eight siblings: Joel Zlockie and wife Carleen, of Mount Carmel; Daniel Zlockie and wife Jeanine, of Mountain Top; Teresa McCabe and husband Jim, of Kulpmont; Christine Borusiewicz and husband Tom, of Indiana; Kathryn Holleran and husband Dennis, of Kulpmont; Mary Ellen Chesney and husband John Allen, of Hampton, VA; Nancy Harvey and husband Jonathan, of Dalton; Michelle Shimko and husband Raymond, of Kulpmont.
