Earl E. Wood, age 92, of Indiana, formerly of Shelocta and Plum Boro, died Monday, January 9, 2017 at St. Andrew’s Village.
He was born in 1924 in Shelocta to Irvin J. and Mary O. Fleming Wood.
Mr. Wood is a member of the Shelocta Community Presbyterian Church where he had served as Deacon and Elder. He was also a member and Past Master of the Plum Boro Masonic Lodge #799, the Pittsburgh Consistory, the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, and the parade unit “Little Vette”. Additionally his memberships included the US Submarine Veterans of WWII, the Legion of Honor, the AARP #2581, and the VFW Post #1989
A veteran of WW II, he served in the US Navy on the USS Apogon submarine.
He was a resident of Plum Boro for 35 years before moving to Shelocta in 1985. While there he was employed as an electrical design draftsman for Westinghouse for 36 years.
Earl is survived by one daughter and one son, Cathy Livengood and husband David, Bloomsburg; Larry Earl Wood and wife Janet, Plum Boro; four grandchildren, Matthew Livengood and wife Christie, Kristin Light and husband Andrew, Kelley Wood, Thomas Wood and wife Ariana; four great grandchildren, Mitchell and Lauren Livengood, Caleb and Mason Light; one brother Arthur G. Wood, Elderton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine Thomas Wood in 2012, and by the following siblings, Lula Miller, Edith Ray, Frances Kohler, Mildred McIntire, John A., Blair, and Ralph F. Wood.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 A.M. with the Rev. Kathy Nice officiating. Interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana. The VFW Post #1989 will provide graveside military honors.
