From the US National Weather Service
A cold front slowly advancing into a quickly moistening environment will spark showers and thunderstorms across the region this afternoon and evening. The environment supports heavy rain, including rainfall rates that could be as high as 1-2″/hr. Right now the risk for heavy rain looks most likely in the I-80 corridor but heavy rain can fall across much of the region and isolated instances of flash flooding will be possible.
Alongside the heavy rain threat, thunderstorms this afternoon could become strong to severe across much of the region. Damaging wind gusts will be the predominant severe threat. Storms are expected to blossom in the early afternoon and begin to taper after sunset.
