The Pirates beat Tampa Bay yesterday, 5-1, as shortstop Oneil Cruz crushed another home run, bashing the ball out of the stadium and off a the roof of a building across the street. Starter Zach Thompson, who was acquired from the Marlins in the Jacob Stallings trade, went two innings and gave up a run on two hits.
Bryan Reynolds cleared the based with a three-run triple in the fourth for the Bucs. Former top draft choice Quinne Priester followed Thompson to the mound, going two scoreless innings. Five other minor league pitchers each threw one scoreless inning.
The Pirates play the Orioles today at LECOM Park in Bradenton. Jose Quintana gets the start at 1 o’clock on WCCS, FM 101.1 and AM 1160.
