The next major holiday travel period is a week away, but Triple-A is already predicting that roads may be crowded for the 4th of July.
The travel agency says that 72.2 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home over the Independence Day holiday starting June 28th running to July 6th. That is an increase of 1.7 million travellers over last year, and 7 million more than in 2019. In the mid-Atlantic region, which includes Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, 8.2 million are expected to travel by automobile, an increase of 1.8%. Another 938,000 will fly, and another 757,000 will take another form of transportation.
They say that the worst travel times for each day of the driving period will be in the mid-day to afternoon and evenings. They advise that people hit the road before 10 AM at the earliest to avoid some of the congestion or problems.
