While many districts are looking at increasing taxes this school year, United School Board was able to finalize their 2025-26 budget without an additional hit to taxpayers.
At last night’s meeting, United approved the spending plan that topped out around $24.9 million in expenses and $24.2 million in revenues. The estimated $700,000 budget gap will be filled by a transfer from the fund balance to the general fund.
Board president Eric Matava said that this year marked the 9th year United has gone without a tax increase, and he credited a team effort with continuing that streak.
The current tax rate for the district is 11.156 mills.
The board also approved changes in the report card design for Kindergarten through 2nd grades, which includes a change in reporting practices from standards-based grading to a letter-based grading system similar to what is being used in 3rd through 5th grades. The new system will start next school year.
