Streets and yards in Indiana Borough were affected by flooding yesterday.
Indiana Fire Association officials said in a post on Facebook that the amount of water that fell combined with restrictions in the underground pipes in the 300 block of North Clymer Avenue caused some of the backup. The water from White’s Run was reportedly too much for the 30-inch culvert and the water went over the banks, flooding houses in a nearby portion of 10th Street.
Officials say 10 houses were flooded, and firefighters saw people scrambling to save their cars. Once the water receded enough, which was around 4:15 PM, crews went in for calls to pump basements out. Creekside firefighters were called in to assist. Penelec was also dispatched to shut off electric meters to the severely flooded houses.
Blairsville Borough also reported some strong flooding. No word yet on how many homes were affected, but officials say that many streets and intersections were affected. Road crews are currently cleaning the streets.
