While the NFL world awaits a new contract for Steelers linebacker TJ Watt, the team wrapped up another of its defensive mainstays yesterday, announcing a two-year, $12.5 million contract extension with safety DeShon Elliott, including $9.21 million guaranteed.
Elliott had an interception, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries last year in his first season in Pittsburgh, making 108 tackles, 72 of them solo.
Watt, meanwhile, has one year left on his contract and is negotiating a new deal, with NFL insider Ian Rapoport reporting that the hangup might be the pending deals for Dallas’ Micah Parson and Concinnati’s Trey Hendrickson. Watt may wait until those contracts are signed before he settles on his own deal.
