The Pirates hit four home runs as they beat the Detroit Tigers, 6-3, in spring training baseball yesterday. Starter Mitch Keller was removed from the game in the second inning after getting hit in the thigh by a line drive. Manager Derek Shelton said Keller was taken out as a precaution.
Pirates home runs were hit by Ben Gamel, who is slated to be the starter in left field this season, and by prospects Oneil Cruz, Tucupita Marcano, and Endy Rodriguez.
Michael Burrows threw two scoreless innings to earn the Pirates second win of the preseason.
Left-hander Dillon Peters will start today for the Pirates in Dunedin, Florida, against the Toronto Blue Jays. Other scheduled pitchers for the Bucs today are Bryse Wilson, Anthony Banda, Sam Howard and Roansy Contreras.
