The Steelers continued their roster-building yesterday by officially signing five free agents and by announcing the re-signing of one of their own free agents, cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon. His two-year deal makes him the fifth Steelers free agent to return to the team.
The Steelers also terminated the contract of linebacker Joe Schobert, saving themselves $7.834 million on the salary cap. He will still count $1.888 million against the cap.
Quarterback Mitch Trubisky, linebacker Myles Jack, cornerback Levi Wallace, and interior offensive linemen James Daniels and Mason Cole all became Steelers by signing contracts to come to Pittsburgh.
Trubisky believes he’ll be a good fit in the Steelers’ offensive scheme.
Jack says all it took was a phone call from head coach Mike Tomlin to convince him to come to Pittsburgh.
One major remaining concern for the Steelers is at safety, where former number one draft choice Terrell Edmunds is a free agent. There’s been no word on whether or not Edmunds will re-sign or leave. Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster also remains on the market.

The biggest news in the NFL yesterday was the Las Vegas Raiders acquiring the best wide receiver in football, Davante Adams, from the Green Bay Packers for a first-round and a second-round pick in the draft next month, plus potentially a current Packers player. Adams then signed five-year, $141 million contract.
Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield asked for a trade yesterday but Cleveland said no.
