At its quarterly meeting on Thursday, the IUP Council of Trustees approved two more cost-cutting measures for students.
The Council unanimously approved a 33.3% reduction in the late payment fees. This means that the per-month fee is now at $20 a month instead of $30, and the maximum late payment fee will be reduced from $120 per semester to $100 a semester. The other measure is an average 25.5% reduction in the student installment payment plan fee. IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll said that this was another step towards making an IUP education more affordable.
In other business, the board approved a resolution of appreciation for Glenn Cannon, who had a 40-year history of public safety. A member of the IUP class of 1971, he was also a former member of the IUP Alumni Association Board of Directors, was named a distinguished alumni in 1985 and received an honorary doctorate in 2010. Cannon was also a part of the IUP Council of Trustees both as a member of the council and serving as the board’s secretary until his death in 2020. The award was presented to his wife Catherine and his son Grant.
