Senator Dave McCormick has joined three others in introducing an act that would support Taiwan’s participation in the International Monetary Fund.
The bill would require the U.S. Governor of the IMF to support admitting the country as a member and its participation in regular surveillance activities in respect to the economic and financial policies of Taiwan, employment opportunities for its citizens at the IMF, and the ability of the country to receive appropriate technical assistance and training by the organization. The act is a companion piece to a similar act in the House of Representatives. McCormick is joined by Jacky Rosen of Nevada, Dan Sullivan of Arkansas and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan.
McCormick said that it is an economic partnership that will benefit the U.S, and in his words, “the Chinese Communist Party should never have a de facto veto over Taiwan’s participation in international commerce.”
