On the first day of NFL free agency, the Steelers added a starting inside linebacker, former Jacksonville Jaguar Myles Jack. He was their leading tackler last year with 108 combined stops, 62 of them solo.
Jack was released Tuesday after six years in Jacksonville. He was the third-highest paid linebacker in the NFL before the Jags released him for salary cap reasons. He signed with the Steelers for two years and $16 million.
Jack will replace Joe Schobert, who will likely be released with a post-June designation, which will save the Steelers $9.25 million against the salary cap.
The Steelers released offensive lineman Zach Banner yesterday and signed reserve quarterback Dwayne Haskins to a $2.54 million restricted free agent tender contract. They also tendered right-of-first refusal contracts for $2.43 million each to linebackers Robert Spillane and Marcus Allen.
