As work continues on the state budget, the PA Turnpike Commission has announced its budget and ten-year capital plan has been approved.
The Turnpike is predicting $1.8 billion in revenue, with nearly $1 billion funding debt service. The $459.7 million operating budget represents a less than 2% growth from last year. As an independent operation, the turnpike is supported by toll revenue and does not receive tax dollars. The budget allocates over $545 million of the over $900 million capital plan budget for projects to improve the system’s infrastructure. It also sets aside $76 million for the State Police Troop T that provides coverage across the turnpike. The 10-year-plan which will run until 2036 will invest a total of $8 billion in infrastructure.
Commission statistics showed that traffic increased 1.4% over the last year, with passenger vehicle traffic at 95% of the peak levels of 2019. Commercial vehicle traffic is 15% over the levels from 2019. Toll revenues are expected to grow 7% in 2026.
