The Governor’s residence will get an anti-climb fence as part of security upgrades at the mansion.
State police Chief Colonel Christopher Paris said in a letter to lawmakers that the fence will be part of a series of changes to security at the Governor’s mansion in wake of the intrusion on April 13th. Early that morning, Cody Balmer allegedly climbed over the seven-foot fence that surrounded the building, hid from officers, and used two homemade “Molotov Cocktails” to set fire to a portion of the structure.
Paris told lawmakers he does not intend to provide them with a security review that was conducted by consultant Jeffrey Miller, but said that based on those findings, procedures have changed, a uniformed division to oversee building security at the residence will be put in place and a “no-climb” fence will be installed. While some of the changes will be visible, Paris said that many other changes will not be.
