The Pirates’ slump continues, with an eighth loss in their last ten games and a sweep at the hands of the Padres. Greg Brown recaps another disappointing day at the ballpark.

Shelton says the Pirates haven’t found the key to unlocking the offense.
On The Ben Cherington Show on WCCS yesterday, the Pirates’ general manager said the team needs to approach the slump with urgency, but at the same time he can’t rush into making rash decisions.
Cherington says the time for patience is past.
Cherington is searching for offensive production, and he’s hoping that getting Spencer Horwitz into the big league lineup can help. Horwitz is currently rehabbing his injured wrist with Altoona and will likely transfer to Indianapolis before finally making it to Pittsburgh.
The GM says there is no concern after Paul Skenes had a rare rough outing last week against the Cubs.
Shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa was placed on the injured list with a sore hamstring on Saturday, with Liover Peguero called up to replace him.
Pitcher Justin Lawrence was transferred to the 60-day injured list with elbow discomfort.
Tanner Rainey was called up to help the bullpen. Reliever Kyle Nicolas was sent down to Indianapolis. Reliever Dennis Santana returned from the bereavement list.
