Paul Skenes had never allowed three home runs in a game, but yesterday he gave up three in one inning in a Pirates loss to the Chicago Cubs. Joe Block has the recap.
Bench coach Donnie Kelly managed the Pirates yesterday as Derek Shelton attended the college graduation of his son in Florida. Kelly says Skenes scuffled but didn’t have his best stuff.
Kelly is impressed with the day-to-day effort the Pirates are giving every night.
Meanwhile, Paul Skenes says he just wasn’t good enough.
Checking in on the Pirates’ top prospect, pitcher Bubba Chandler had another sparkling effort for Indianapolis yesterday, throwing five innings, striking out nine, and giving up just a run in a 7-2 win over Omaha. Chandler is 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA.
