Cal U guaranteed an all PSAC NCAA D2 Men’s Atlantic Regional championship game Tuesday night at the Kovalchick Complex.
Cal U eliminated West Virginia State, 67-65. The Vulcans will meet the winner of this evening’s other semi-final contest between the IUP Crimson Hawks (30-2) and Mercyhurst (25-6). The Hawks and Lakers are scheduled to tip at 7:30 at the KCAC. The game will be heard on WQMU (U92.5 FM) with Jack Benedict and Tony Coccagna.
The Vulcans trailed West Virginia State by 14 with 13:49 remaining before going on a 14-1 run to climb back in it. WVU had possession with 10.4 seconds remaining but a 3-point shot missed as time expired.
IUP defeated Mercyhurst, 70-67, on January 12th at Mercyhurst and 60-51 at home on January 29th.
The Lakers shocked the Hawks back in 2019 in the semi-finals of the Atlantic Regional here at the KCAC. Ironically IUP carried the same 30-2 record into that game.
Should IUP advance it would mark the fourth meeting between the Crimson Hawks and Vulcans this season. The Vulcans went 0-5 against IUP and Mercyhurst this season.
