Sunday’s Sports Roundup includes a check of the Pirates, the Altoona Curve, Pitt and Penn State football, and the Steelers’ final roster cuts.
The Pirates blew a two-run lead in the 8th inning and lost to Atlanta, 5-3 last night. They’ll face the Braves again today with Nick Kingham on the mound for the Bucs. He’s replacing Ivan Nova, who is not with the team as he tends to a personal matter, according to manager Clint Hurdle.
You can hear today’s came on WCCS, AM 1160 and 101.1 FM, beginning at 4:05 with the pregame show.
In the minor leagues, the Curve scored three runs in the 9th inning to beat Bowie, 6-3.
In college football, Pitt easily handled Albany, 33-7 in the season opener yesterday, but Penn State struggled against Appalachian State, winning in overtime, 45-38.
The Steelers final roster cuts yesterday included veteran backup quarterback Landry Jones. Former Pitt stars Quadree Henderson and Matt Galambos were also released, as was veteran running back Fitzgerald Toussaint.
