A classroom project was the cause of a fire alarm activation that brought five departments out to Penns Manor Elementary School Friday evening.
Indiana County 911 reported an automatic fire alarm activation at 5:29 PM that brought out Cherryhill and Pine Township fire departments initially. Twelve minutes later, the call was upgraded to a reported structure fire, and that brought out Clymer, Commodore and Indiana fire departments. When they arrived, they found that the elementary school portion of the complex had a lot of smoke. Superintendent Daren Johnston explained that the cause of all the smoke was not a fire, but burning syrup.
No injuries were reported in the incident and crews were able to use fans to get the smoke out of the building.
