After a relatively quiet Sunday and Monday morning, emergency crews were busy with several calls related to the windstorm that came through our area Monday evening.
Power outages were reported for both REA and Penelec Customers as the high winds hit our area, and first responders went out to attend to 22 calls, including 13 that were related to power lines either being down or a tree falling into power lines between 5:03 and 7:30 PM in Indiana and Clymer boroughs and East Mahoning, Conemaugh, Canoe, Rayne, Montgomery, Center and Green Townships. An automatic fire alarm was also reported on South 9th Street in Indiana at 5:10 PM. A tree was reported down across Cherrytree Road in Montgomery Township at 5:53 PM, and a gas leak was reported on Mumau Road in Grant Township at 7:00 PM. The remaining calls were listed as “miscellaneous”.
Penelec reports this morning that at the storm’s peak, about 1,360 customers in Indiana County were without power. That number is down to 200 this morning, mainly in Montgomery Township and Green Township. Crews worked through the night to restore power and are continuing to work this morning. No definite restoration time is available.
REA Energy reported that 2200 cooperative members were without power yesterday, and as of this morning, there’s only one outage in the area.
