After beating Tampa Bay and losing in overtime to Carolina last Thursday and Friday, the Penguins return to action tomorrow night at home against Florida, another top Eastern Conference team.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the Pens played about as well as they have this season against the Lightning on Thursday, but sagged a bit against the Hurricanes on Friday.
Sullivan says he’s pleased with Kasperi Kapanen’s newfound confidence, and the overall play of the second line, with Kapanen, Evgeni Malkin, and Danton Heinen
The Penguins will play three home games in the next seven days, starting tomorrow night against Florida, then on Friday night against Vegas and on Sunday afternoon against Carolina.
Defenseman Mike Matheson and forward Jason Zucker skated over the weekend with coach Ty Hennes. It was the first time on skates for both, after Matheson was injured February 24th against the Islanders and Zucker had abdominal core surgery January 25th. He’d not played since a one-game return against Vegas on January 17th, after suffering the injury in December.
Goaltender Louis Domingue practiced with the team yesterday for the first time since suffering a foot injury on January 20th. Evgeni Malkin was off for a maintenance day.
