The Pennsylvania Senate has recognized today as “Drugs Kill Dreams Day” in the state.
Senator Joe Pittman was a sponsor of the resolution about the observance. The program was started in 1994 by Armstrong County District Judge J. Gary DeComo, but the name comes from a student poster from a fourth-grader at Lenape Elementary School in 2000. The name was adopted by him as a way to help increase awareness of the negative impacts drugs and alcohol have on students.
Pittman said that the program was a testament to DeComo’s efforts to increase prevention efforts and decrease addiction and crimes committed by addicted individuals.
