The Penguins’ next three games are against the only three teams ahead of them in the Eastern Conference, starting tonight with the Tampa Bay Lighting in Florida. They will follow that up tomorrow night at Carolina, and then play on Tuesday next week at home against the Florida Panthers. The next seven Penguins opponents are all currently in playoff positions.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the back-to-back games against the Lightning and Hurricane will certainly be a challenge.
Sullivan says the Penguins will find out a lot about themselves in the next five days.
Jeff Carter’s appearance in the Penguins lineup tonight will be costly for his team. The terms of last year’s trade that brought Carter to Pittsburgh from the LA Kings included a contingent draft pick. If Carter were to play fifty games for the Penguins this season, the pick would be upgraded from the fourth round after next season to the third round.
The Penguins and Lightning face off tonight shortly after 7 o’clock. The pregame airs on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel at 6.
