UPDATE: Dayton and Plumville fire departments were called back to the scene at 9:54 Thursday morning as the fire rekindled. Crews were on the scene for less than an hour.
Firefighters were on the scene for about five hours last night as the West Mahoning Township municipal building was destroyed by fire.
The Plumville, Marion Center, Dayton, and Rural Valley fore companies were among those dispatched shortly before 11 PM to the blaze along Chestnut Street in Smicksburg.
The building was already engulfed by the time firefighters arrived. Marion Center reported that Dayton was first on scene and found the 40-by-100 foot building fully involved. Initial reports were that there were explosions heard from inside the structure prior to the fire.
No one was injured. The state police fire marshal is investigating to try to determine the cause. Officials estimate that damage to the building comes to as much as $1 million.
