Indiana County District Attorney Patrick Dougherty announced that he is seeking election to the vacant judicial seat in Indiana County’s Court of Common Pleas.
Dougherty has been the Indiana County District Attorney since 2012. Prior to his time as the DA he was an assistant District Attorney starting in 2002, and has also served as solicitor for Blairsville and Homer City boroughs. Dougherty has been instrumental in the DA’s office efforts in the fight against drug abuse, including helping to set up three drug drop-off boxes in Indiana County, and one of the leaders of the Indiana County Drug Task Force. Other programs that he is a part of include the Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Tax Force, the county’s Child Advocacy Center Advisory Board, the Alice Paul House and the Open Door of Indiana County.
Dougherty will run against Tony Sottile, Thomas A. Kaufman, and Mike Clark for the position, and Dougherty said in an interview today that these positions come up very rarely.
