IUP Police are warning students about an email scam going around that is trying to trick people into giving up private information.
The email allegedly comes from a legitimate company called “TekSystems” and the subject line reads “Part-Time Job Offer”, saying that the company is running a student empowerment program, and saying they are looking for students to give a few hours a week to work for an attractive salary. The email asks the person to reply with their personal email address if they are interested in the position.
While TekSystems is a legitimate company, the email is not, and it is making the rounds of student’s IUP email addresses. One of the things police are noticing is that certain words are using a British spelling or are misspelled completely, sending up a red flag that the email is coming from outside the US.
IUP Police say if you received the email, contact them at 724-357-2141.
