PennDOT yesterday announced almost $456 million in liquid fuels payments that will be distributed to local municipalities across the commonwealth, including nearly $5 million for Indiana County’s townships and boroughs.
The funds are determined by the population and locally-owned road mileage within each municipality.
Indiana County’s largest liquid fuels fund distribution goes to White Township, with over 83 miles of roads and the largest population in the county, more than 15,000 people. The township will receive $529,539. Indiana Borough is next, with an allocation of $352,967. The rest of the top five are Rayne, Green, and Cherryhill townships, ranging from $244,965 to $273,880. Others receiving distributions of more than $200,000 include Armstrong and Center townships.
PennDOT also reported that Pennsylvania will receive $1.6 billion in new bridge funds, with 15 percent of it committed to “off-system” local bridges. But Governor Wolf’s Transportation Revenue Options Commission says the unmet funding needs for locally owned roads and bridges will be nearly $3.9 billion per year, growing to $5.1 billion annually by 2030.
