On Tuesday night, Homer City Borough Council heard about some problems with some of the borough’s trucks.
Borough Manager Robert Nymick said this winter season has been tough as they have had multiple problems with trucks, plows and other pieces of equipment. Nymick said that finding parts sometimes has been the toughest part.
He also discussed a problem that was caused by a plow, as a plow caught a sewer grate at Filbert and Market Alley, damaging the grate. Repairs will be made as soon as possible, but for now, a temporary metal plate is on the grate.
In other business, borough council approved two resolutions to apply for Department of Community and Economic Development grants for Main Street improvement projects. One grant will be for $997,770 for multimodal improvements, and the other is $870,665 for block redevelopments. Borough council also gave the public safety committee permission to find a way to pay tribute to Homer City fireman Scott Johnston for his work to rescue Matt Blystone, Tonya Gibbons and their children during a house fire last month. Instead of going to the station, he heard their cries for help, so he went directly to the house and rescued them from the roof, then went back to his house and got them shoes to protect them from the icy conditions.
