The Heritage Conference will have three teams competing for District 6 championships this week, and the schedule will be completed tonight when the second seeded Homer Center Wildcats host the number three seed, Penns Manor, in a girls Double-A semifinal.
The two teams have met twice this season. Penns Manor won, 46-45, on December 14th in the Heritage Conference opener. Homer Center won the conference championship over the Comets, 36-26, at the KCAC on February 11th.
Wildcats coach Nick Moore says it’s tough to find points against Penns Manor.
Comets coach Jason Miloser agrees it will be a defensive struggle, and he needs to find some space for Megan Dumm to get some open looks at the rim.
The winner of tonight’s game will play for the district championship on Thursday night at Mount Aloysius College against the winner of tonight’s other semifinal between top seed Bishop McCort and number four Bellwood Antis.
NOTE: We will simulcast tonight’s Homer Center/Penns Manor game on WCCS, 101.1 FM and 1160 AM, and on Cat Country, 106.3 FM, and on the TribLive High School Sports Network.
The other Double-A final will also be played on Thursday night at Mount Aloysius. It will be a boys’ matchup of defending District 6 champ Portage, the number-one seed, against number two Penns Manor. Portage eliminated West Shamokin on Saturday, while Penns Manor edged United.
District 6 has made a site change for Wednesday’s Triple-A games. Mount Aloysius is not available due to a scheduled men’s volleyball game, so the Triple-A championships will be played at Central Cambria High School. The first game will feature the Heritage Conference’s River Valley girls, the second seed, against top seed Forest Hills. The boys championship will have Richland meeting Bishop Guilfoyle.
