Local schools are reacting to the new directives from the CDC concerning face masks on school buses and vans.
The Centers for Disease Control announced last Friday that the group exercised its “enforcement discretion to not require that people wear masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/child care programs. The mask mandate had been in place since schools started to reopen during the pandemic, and was in line with a mandate that extended to all public transportation. The CDC says that guidance had been updated that no longer recommends universal masking in K-12 schools and early education settings. The decision on whether or not to mask on school buses or vans is now up to the individual districts.
Indiana, River Valley and United have all announced either through their websites or on their social media pages that they will follow the CDC guidelines and no longer require masks on district transportation effective immediately. It’s not known at this time if the rest of the school districts in Indiana County are doing the same.
