The push is on from the Shapiro Administration for people to get REAL ID’s by the May 7th enforcement deadline.
On that day, Real ID’s or another federally-acceptable ID like a passport will be needed to board a commercial air flight or to enter a federal building or military installation that requires a federal ID at the door. To help in the effort, PennDOT is opening Drivers License Centers on additional days to handle the Real ID process.
To upgrade your license or state ID card to a Real ID, you will need to have certain documents scanned into the system, including proof that you are a legal resident of the U.S. like a birth certificate or passport, proof of a social security number, and two documents to prove Pennsylvania residency like a vehicle registration card, an unexipired driver’s license, insurance card or other material. If your name has changed for any legal reason, that is also required.
A Real ID day has been scheduled for March 10th at the Indiana Driver’s License Center at the Indiana Mall. If you go that day, you can get your Real ID sent in the mail in 15 business days or less.
