A Latrobe man is facing serious charges after he reportedly tried to flee state police on Friday afternoon, dragging a trooper until he was able to free himself from the suspect’s car.
Police responded to 310 Maple Street in White Township after a 36-year-old woman reported shortly before 4:30 PM that she and 29-year-old Matthew Allen Rebar were involved in a dispute and he knew where she lived and was on his way there. When troopers arrived, Rebar was sitting in the apartment complex’s parking lot with the engine running on his Honda Civic. A trooper approached and asked him through the open window to shut off the car, but Rebar put it in gear and started driving away. The trooper was dragged along for about 30 feet before he was able to pull free and fall, rolling on the ground. He suffered a minor injury.
Police gave chase and Rebar stopped after a brief pursuit, in Indiana Borough. He is facing charges of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, and driving under the influence.
